Baby is on its way, and if you're a new mom you're definitely wondering what the heck to pack!
From my own experience, I had my baby bag partially ready to go since this little one made an appearance four weeks early; therefore, I think I can give you some of the essential tips since that's what we had to work with!
Generally, the hospital does provide most of the items that baby needs (contact your hospital to confirm), but you will need to bring a few things for him or her. You won't be sure how long your stay will be, so I would be extra safe and pack a few more outfits just in case it is longer than expected.
6 short sleeve onesies.
6 pj onesies.
Mitts for baby's hands or you can purchase onesies that have little pouches that flip over the hands that act as mitts (I didn't figure this one out until three weeks later).
If you have a specific formula that you want to use, then I would pack that, as well as bottles (or buy a ready feed option because you probably won't be sanitizing the bottles at the hospital). The hospital will supply formula but there isn't usually a selection.
3 packs of wipes.
1or 2 packs of diapers.
Diaper cream (they supplied one for me, but I wanted to use something specific so I had my own).
Baby Shampoo/Body wash (they will give him/her a bath to show you how to bathe the baby).
Blanket for the car ride home.
If it is winter, then a heavier onesie and a blanket will do if you can warm up the car before putting baby in.
Car Seat (make sure the base is installed prior to going to the hospital)
The hospital will provide you with a blanket for baby to be swaddled in, and a hat to keep them nice and cozy.
If you have questions about certain things or products, write everything down ahead of time because once you are there and preoccupied, #mombrain definitely kicks in and you will forget!
Enjoy your new bundle of joy!
xoxo
